What a beautiful day! Sparky and I hopped on the trike eager to ride. After yesterday being rainy, we were happy to see clear skies as we headed town bound to Zippy’s. We pulled in to see Don Lee, Cal, Dandy, Mark B., Steve L and Brother Richard talking story with Jim B. (our former member but regular guest rider). We were making our greetings when in cruised, Red, Pat aka, Papa “G”, Kimo and Stacy. Along for the ride with Red were Betsy and her son, Ethan as guest riders. With Sparky and I we had a nice formation to ride.
I thought it would make for a nice change to appoint someone to be in charge of the day’s ride and decide where to go, the stops and where lunch would be. I put Papa “G” (Gordon) in charge and he stepped up to the challenge immediately making the decision that we head Yokohama way. I also decided to change our formation as well. I would take the lead with the VP Kimo riding behind me with Don Lee and the two Road Guards, Gordon and Pat falling in behind them. Brother Richard blessed our day and we were off.
We headed down Dillingham to Nimitz on to H-1. It looked to be a wonderful day for the ride. We took our time and headed west through Waianae, Nanakuli and on to our first destination, Yokohama. The coast looked busy but we took time to use the facilities, share our previous week’s activities, update each other on our families, and look to Gordon for our next stop. It’s decided we will stop at 7-11 for snacks, so we mount up and it’s off again.
One nice thing about our rides is we get a chance to see other bike clubs riding and time to visit with our friends in those clubs. We pulled into 7-11, got refreshments, more time to visit, hellos to friends and it’s east bound again. As we headed out, we passed several clubs riding together towards Yokohama.
As we headed towards Kaimuki and lunch, we lost a few members to other obligations. Our group downsized and we waived our good-byes as they pulled off at their various destinations. The traffic was good and we made nice time into Kaimuki and lunch at Happy Day Restaurant. Chinese food all around, compliments of Papa “G”. The food was great, the company even better, all in all, a great time and a nice change of pace.
It was the final stop for all but Papa “G”, Pat aka and Sparky and I. We bid our farewells to Red, Betsy, Ethan and Jim B. and we head on towards Hawaii Kai. As we come off H-1, we stop to pick up Papa “G”’s daughter and granddaughter, they are going for a little ride with Gordon and Pat. It was beautiful along the coast and traffic got busier with the sight seers out. As we came through Waimanalo and hit the junction at Castle Hospital, we waived our good-byes as Sparky and I headed towards Kailua and Papa “G” and Pat with their passengers headed towards the Pali way. As usual, it was another day in Paradise for our Intruder Sunday ride.
Be safe and have a great week. I have my monthly SBU meeting next Sunday, but hope to meet up with you guys after the meeting.
