SUNDAY RIDE July 18, 2010

The day started out pretty bad as it was really coming down in Kaneohe. Sparky and I had to jump in the car to hook up with the Mo’ punas and Pacific Knights. VP Chameleon took the reins as we were obligated to work.

Joining Stacy and I were Stafford, Papa “G”, Pat aka, Marc, Cindy and Ray H., Don Lee, Dandy, Steve L., Calvin and Mark B. We welcomed Billy and Henry as guest riders. Red and Fran, Rudy, Prez and Sparky were manning some of the three stops for the combined poker run, school supplies and bike blessing. We staged then headed out to start our day.

We cruised into Moanalua Gardens to sign in and drop off the school supplies. We greeted friends, talked story, grabbed our tea leaves for our bikes and it’s off the Cycle City with Staff and I leading.

We pulled into Cycle City and were greeted by our Prez and Sparky. After hugs and pulling of our numbers, we talked a bit with promises to hook up at Waimanalo Teen Center and it was off to the next stop, Scullyz.

We head towards Waipahu and Scullyz cruising into to see Fran and Rudy hard at work giving out numbers, signing sheets and saying hey to all that stop by. It was nice to see the new shop of Louis and Angie’s and we wish them all the best in their new business.

We head out to Kam Highway and it’s on to H-3. We take the back way into Waimanalo and to the teen center. Lots of friends and we hook back up with the Prez, his lady and in comes Rudy and Fran. It was a great turn out for what started out to be a not so good day. The weather turned out to be beautiful and even the Prez jumped in the slow bike race. No one told him he had three wheels and couldn’t play but he really gave Stafford a run for his money and it was close, but Stafford won out. The food was good, the company better and friends were in abundance.

Be safe and have a great week. It was another great Intruder Sunday in paradise.

VP Kimo the Chameleon

Happy July 4th. I take time to wish all of our past and present Military personal a personal thank you for all you have given for our freedom. I am honored to count some of you as members of the "Intruders of Hawaii MC".

The day started out wonderful as Sparky and I cruised in from Waikiki. We got to the FRA for our monthly meeting of SBUHI. About 9:30 in cruised the group, Kim, Cindy and Ray, Bucky, Dandy, Papa "G", Pat aka, Calvin and Steve L. We greet all and welcome our two new Ohana members, Sherie and Kassie Nakaya. Sheri is Papa "G's" daughter and Kassie is his granddaughter. Welcome aboard.

Greetings all around and it's decided that we head to H-1 and travel towards Kaneohe. The weather is beautiful and as we make our way to H-3, I decide to cruise around Lanikai and take in the sites. The beaches are full and lots of traffic but all is going well and we are making good time.

We are enjoying the sites and taking it slow when the trike decides it wants to rest. We all pull over and Calvin comes with his little tool box. A neighbor helps by giving the trike a jump, we fire it up and it's off again. As we make the turn at the end of Lanikai to start back out, the trike stops and this time it's not agreeable to starting. Sparky and I are done.

After some discussion and a few phone calls to get AAA to come out, it's decided that Pat, Gordon, our two new Ohana members, Sheri and Kassie and Calvin will head on out. Kimo has to go grab Stacy so Sparky and Cindy make a run into town to grab us some snacks while we wait for Triple A. Nothing like a picnic on the side of the road.

They get back, we snack, talk story and low and behold Triple A to the rescue. They load the trike up on the flatbed and with the gang in tow, we head to Kaneohe to drop the trike.

Sparky's son met us at the houese to get us back to the hotel in Waikiki and we make our good byes to the few and the proud who hung with us. We missed riding with the rest but we are blessed to have a great club and good friends.

Be safe and have a great week.

Prez

P.S. Always be sure to check the water in your battery. Lesson learned. The trike is BACK and we will see you Sunday.

What a beautiful day! Sparky and I hopped on the trike eager to ride. After yesterday being rainy, we were happy to see clear skies as we headed town bound to Zippy’s. We pulled in to see Don Lee, Cal, Dandy, Mark B., Steve L and Brother Richard talking story with Jim B. (our former member but regular guest rider). We were making our greetings when in cruised, Red, Pat aka, Papa “G”, Kimo and Stacy. Along for the ride with Red were Betsy and her son, Ethan as guest riders. With Sparky and I we had a nice formation to ride.

I thought it would make for a nice change to appoint someone to be in charge of the day’s ride and decide where to go, the stops and where lunch would be. I put Papa “G” (Gordon) in charge and he stepped up to the challenge immediately making the decision that we head Yokohama way. I also decided to change our formation as well. I would take the lead with the VP Kimo riding behind me with Don Lee and the two Road Guards, Gordon and Pat falling in behind them. Brother Richard blessed our day and we were off.

We headed down Dillingham to Nimitz on to H-1. It looked to be a wonderful day for the ride. We took our time and headed west through Waianae, Nanakuli and on to our first destination, Yokohama. The coast looked busy but we took time to use the facilities, share our previous week’s activities, update each other on our families, and look to Gordon for our next stop. It’s decided we will stop at 7-11 for snacks, so we mount up and it’s off again.

One nice thing about our rides is we get a chance to see other bike clubs riding and time to visit with our friends in those clubs. We pulled into 7-11, got refreshments, more time to visit, hellos to friends and it’s east bound again. As we headed out, we passed several clubs riding together towards Yokohama.

As we headed towards Kaimuki and lunch, we lost a few members to other obligations. Our group downsized and we waived our good-byes as they pulled off at their various destinations. The traffic was good and we made nice time into Kaimuki and lunch at Happy Day Restaurant. Chinese food all around, compliments of Papa “G”. The food was great, the company even better, all in all, a great time and a nice change of pace.

It was the final stop for all but Papa “G”, Pat aka and Sparky and I. We bid our farewells to Red, Betsy, Ethan and Jim B. and we head on towards Hawaii Kai. As we come off H-1, we stop to pick up Papa “G”’s daughter and granddaughter, they are going for a little ride with Gordon and Pat. It was beautiful along the coast and traffic got busier with the sight seers out. As we came through Waimanalo and hit the junction at Castle Hospital, we waived our good-byes as Sparky and I headed towards Kailua and Papa “G” and Pat with their passengers headed towards the Pali way. As usual, it was another day in Paradise for our Intruder Sunday ride.

Be safe and have a great week. I have my monthly SBU meeting next Sunday, but hope to meet up with you guys after the meeting.

Happy Intruder Sunday! What a beautiful day as Stacy and I cruise into Zippy’s. Prez and Sparky have the SBU meeting so I take the reins to get our day started. We greet our Intruder and Ohana members, Rudy and Fran, Twila and Richard, Dandy, Papa “G”, Bridget and Coop (Jim), Ray H. and Cindy H., Calvin, Gary, and Steve and Serena. Great group and they are ready to ride. I make the announcements and it’s decided that we will head towards the “Drop Zone” as we make our way to the North Shore. Brudda Richard blesses the day and we get started.

We make our way enjoying each other’s company and the weather as we cruise to the drop zone to pay our respects to our fallen brother, Santos. Richard asks for blessings over Santos and we share stories and memories of our time with him. Papa “G” puts some fresh flowers on his post and straightens the flag as Santos was a veteran as well.

We saddle up and head around to the front pit stop for restrooms and drinks for some. We cruise in and realize that we have picked up some extras. Prez and Sparky have snuck in the back of us with guest rider Joe.

As we make our way to Haleiwa, some acknowledge that a gas stop is needed so we hit the Sunset Chevron for fill-ups. Some suggestions are made and it’s decided, Turtle Bay sounds great for lunch so we mount up and we are on our way. Lots of hungry appetites all around. Great food, good company and we spend some serious talk time with a lot of laughter all around. Steve assured us the burgers were great and he was right on the mark.

Lunch over, several hang together to hit another few sites along the way. We make our way toward Ka a a'wa and come into Kaneohe again stopping at the pier for a break. We check out the boats as it was really warm and the water looks inviting.

It was a beautiful day in Paradise. Good friends, good food and I look forward to seeing everyone next week.

As ever your VP,

“Chameleon”

P.S. Don’t forget next Sat. June 12th, the KoaPuna “Hot Summer Nights poker run and party. If you can, be there!

Happy Memorial Day to all. While it’s a “3 Day weekend for most”, we have to remember what Memorial Day is all about. It is a day to memorialize our loved ones who have left us, but a lot of us take time to acknowledge and remember our Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

We had a small group. Sparky and I met up with Papa “G”, Marc, Steve L., Dandy, Mark, and Calvin. Guest riders, Jim and Francis joined another new islander Joe to enjoy our day with us. Marc and Gordon took care of our safety.

We hit the roads and headed off to Waikiki. Traffic was a bit heavy but it was a beautiful day. We took our time, going through all the back roads cruising through Aina Haina and Hawaii Kai. We enjoyed the views and comradery as we slowly headed to Waimanalo and some break time. After talking story, grabbing some refreshments, we mapped out the next leg of the ride. It’s decided that we will head towards Kaneohe.

We took in the sights and took it slow and easy as the tourists were out and about for the big weekend. A lot of traffic around the cemetaries but that was to be expected. We made our way to Papa Ole’s for a great lunch. Everyone else must have had the same idea because the line was out the door. But the food was good and we got our nourishment and some serious visit time. After lunch everyone headed out to family things with several making plans to meet back up for the ceremonies at Punchbowl.

4:00 came and several bikers hit the streets to honor the fallen. Sparky and I greeted Jim, Francis, Marc, Kimo and Stacy and our vet, Don Lee. We exchanged pleasantries with several of our friends with other clubs as we staged to ride up to Punchbowl.

It was a moving ceremony and we thank everyone who came out for all veterans including our own members who fought for our freedom as well. Even the young ones took time from their day to wave a flag and show their thanks. I want to thank all our veterans for all that they still do.

I look forward to seeing everyone next week. Kimo takes the reins as I have my monthly SBU meeting but I will catch up. Be safe and ride with care.

Prez Ray
